Ultrasound guided injections are a valuable tool in diagnosing and treating various musculoskeletal conditions.

As a diagnostic aide, ultrasound guided injections may be used to identify the specific structures responsible for your symptoms.  This, in conjunction with a thorough history, exam, and diagnostic imaging, allows for the establishment of a more definitive plan of care.

For many conditions, injection therapy may be more appealing than oral medications because of decreased systemic effects and maximized local effect in the area that is the source of pain.  As a valuable component in treatment protocols, ultrasound guided injections provide several benefits over non-guided or "blind" injections.

There are several scenarios in which an ultrasound guided injection may be recommended:

  • Failed non-guided injection – a previous “blind” injection was not helpful
  • Response to injection has implications for further testing/treatment
  • Body habitus – larger and smaller patients
  • Neurovascular structures – the area of concern is near nerves or blood vessels
  • Patient on anticoagulation – if you are on blood thinners

Depending on the type of injection you receive, your pain relief may be long-lasting.  In addition to injections for pain, Dr. Makinde offers several treatments aimed at activating the body’s natural healing mechanisms to repair damaged tissue:
